Two Second Stepping

This was definitely an interesting way to walk. I would take a step...let my leg slide back on the treadmill for a 2 count and then take another step. It really kept my thighs engaged and was difficult to do!

Running is hard work

It's extremely difficult on my asthma to run full force as fast as I can. I'm not sure how I'll ever be able to run faster! I ran 1 mile in 12.1 minutes today. I walked the additional time to total 30minutes and went a distance of 1.6 miles total.

Slow Runner

I guess I'm just a slow runner. I don't know if I'm not setting the treadmill fast enough but my heart feels like it's going to explode...and I'm not going that much faster than my regular jog. I ran 1 mile in 12.5 minutes today and walked 1.63 in 30 minutes. I guess I need to keep working on my strength training to get faster. Not sure how that will help my lungs though.

Not as good as I thought

I ran a 12 minute mile. Not too bad but also not that good considering when I am running my 'regular' pace I can do a mile in 14-15 minutes. (I think I average 14.5 minutes) There was definitely no way I could run 3 miles at that pace though. I continued walking for 30 minutes and totaled 1.63 miles.

Goal Number 13

I thought I'd change it up a little this week and try something new. I want to really push myself and see how fast I can run a mile. So the goal for this week:
run 1 mile as fast as I can
continue walking until I hit 30 minutes
do this at least 3 times

MIA for a few days

My grandfather passed away on Wednesday so I haven't had an opportunity to get a workout in. I really noticed that I didn't feel good today and I wonder if that contributed to it.
Today I ran 2.1 miles in 30 minutes. We'll see if I feel better today and tomorrow.

I'm a quitter

I ran 1.3 miles in 18 minutes and I just couldn't go any further. It was a combination of my blister, my chest being really tight and me not wanting to push! Ha! Every day when I get on the treadmill I ask myself why am I still doing this? I don't love it. I don't even like it. I feel like crap when I'm doing it but I keep doing it. Isn't that a stupid thing? I mean, why would you keep doing something you hate?
But, I am still going to do it. I will probably take tomorrow off and then try again on Thursday.

Slower than expected

I ran 2.03 miles in 30 minutes. I made my goal of 2 miles but I actually expected to have a further distance. I'm not sure if I didn't set the treadmill high enough or if my pace was slower. It's so difficult to tell. I felt pretty good. When I started my shins were sore which is pretty normal for me. It takes a good 5-10 minutes for them to feel warmed up and to stop aching. My chest also felt tight as usual due to my asthma. I wonder if this feeling will go away the more I keep running?

Goal Number 12

I'm afraid to increase my goal this week. For me I know that if I 'fail' I might lose motivation. But, I've been able to do 2 miles consistently so I think it's time. Goals for this week:

run 3 times this week

Sore thighs

My slow walk technique must be working because I had sore thighs today which is a good means they are getting stronger! I walked 1 mile in 30 minutes.

Slow Walk....take it easy

Recognize the tune of that heading? Today is a miserable, rainy day outside. It must have effected my walk since I only did .83 miles in 30 minutes. I thought I had the speed set the same as always but apparently not.
I wonder if I should consider getting a new treadmill? There is nothing wrong with the one that I have. It functions fine. It's just not very conducive to training. I might have to research prices today.

Strength Walking

I managed my 1 mile in 30 minutes at full incline with no problem. I like to take very long strides so that I can feel my muscles working. This can only be done at a slower speed or I'd fall flat on my face! LOL

Goal Number 11

I feel like the strength training weeks are a waste of time. I feel like if I'm not always running I'll lose the ability or something. BUT, they must be working because I have been improving in my speed. This week's goals:
Workout 3 times
Walk at full incline
Walk for a total of 30 minutes
Squats or some other sort of leg exercise
